Overview

Sisar alone is a stellar climb in both texture and views. It will take at least 1.5 hours to climb to the start of Horn canyon. From there, it is a 20 minute or more descent down technical and steep trail to town. Shuttling is advised to the start of sisar road.

Need to Know

Very remote - little to no amenities anywhere. there is a general store right at the base of Sisar Canyon Road - pick up snacks and extra water here.

Description

Starting in town with two cars - leave one at the base of horn canyon or downtown. Drive the other to the base of sisar canyon road. Begin the ride from there, riding up the canyon dirt road for nearly two hours until reaching the radio towers along the ridge. If you're feeling great, feel free to add in a short red reef loop.

From the radio towers, Horn Canyon begins with some mellow long sections of contouring trail. Once it crosses Sisar Road for the first and only time, it immediately becomes rockier and steeper. Line choice is critical, and there will be some larger moves in rock gardens. The descent is broken up by only one flat section by pine camp, but is otherwise continuous and difficult until you reach town.

History & Background

This is an old access trail to mines and springs. The climb itself is a historic Chumash route.

Horn Canyon could use some maintenance. Lots of overgrowth and soft eroded sections. 15.6mi — 2h 48m
