Overview
Starts out with a fun downhill rocky doubletrack with mild drops, then turns into flowy singletrack.
Beck Hill has some moderately challenging climbs, and some sandy sections. One 50yd section of
Paradise Rim Trail is pretty technical and requires advanced skills, but is walkable for intermediate riders. Some fun slickrock along
Turtle Wall Trail, then a flowy downhill at the end on
Halfway Wash Trail.
Description
Starts out at the
Chuckwalla Trail trailhead, with a doubletrack descent with rocks and drops, then a slight incline through the wash in a singletrack, with some light sand, and lots of hikers (this is a popular hiking trail). At the end of Chuckwalla, go straight onto
Beck Hill, instead of turning left across the wash like most bikers do.
Beck Hill has some deep sand sections, so it's most fun with fat tires or soon after rain, when the deep sand at the beginning is easier to navigate. There are some moderately challenging rocky climbs on this section, and incredible desert vistas, and another patch of deep sand at the end.
Then there's a short section of
Paradise Rim Trail, which contains some gnarly advanced drops and other features, but it's less than 50yds, and the gnarly stuff is walkable for intermediate riders.
Turtle Wall Trail downhill is a blast. Lots of rocks and small drops, along with winding sections of slickrock along the edge of a slope, with a moderately steep slickrock descent at the end. Then
Halfway Wash Trail is a downhill, easy, doubletrack flowy trail, with a few washed out gullies across the track, just to keep you awake. It ends in a residential neighborhood with no parking, so you can't really start/end here, so get on the
Whiptail Trail (paved) to go back up to the Chuckwalla parking lot where you started.
History & Background
There are a couple of places for rock climbing and rappelling along the first part of the trail.
