Need to Know
Be prepared to push/carry in places...
Description
I can only presume this trail was named 'Pandemic' because whoever built it, did so during the [Covid] pandemic when bikes were in short supply, so decided to build a hiking trail instead...
In this direction, the trail is mainly downhill - and starts on a narrow traverse from the pass on 500 trail, with some exposure to your right. However, after a series of rocky switchbacks, things really start to get challenging, with some large rock steps to navigate both down and up again - some of which are so steep and rocky they are not possible to ride up (you'll almost certainly need to push/hike a bike), and in the other direction would provide a serious rock-roll challenge too.
The trail continues north on a narrow traverse, crossing some rock slabs on an angle which is likely to result in pedal strikes if not careful, although generally in this direction you do have gravity on your side to aid momentum.
When you reach the northernmost switchback (approximately half way through on the map) the trail does appear to split and continue up a VERY steep slope (which includes a wooden skinny bridge), and I understand this does connect through to another trail over the crest, although it is not shown on the map.
After this tight switchback turn, the main route then heads downhill and gets a little more easy, open and flowing as you head east to eventually join up with the main 601 trail and link/s to Nitro, Flowbee and 701.
