Overview
The beginning of Backbone and
Side Oats has some fun rocks and techy sections. The eastern part of Backbone and Creosote are more flowy and uneventful, except for the occasional cow or two!
Description
This system is a nice alternative to the more popular and crowded trails of Sedona. It exists in the middle of a residential area and although there are many spur trails from the surrounding neighborhoods, the signage is well-marked for the main trails. This route is a mix of clay dirt flow, sandy washes, gravelly loose terrain, and small rocky drops and ledges. Keep an eye on your GPS, especially in the
Side Oats area.
If you start at the TH on Zelesky, the beginning of Backbone and over to
Side Oats (and adjacent unmarked trails) has all the tech. Continuing east to the other side of Backbone and Creosote lengthens the ride, but the trail becomes pretty chill.
