Overview
The Applecross Trail system offers machine-built mountain bike trails in a compact network, and this loop makes the perfect sampler for intermediate to advanced riders. You'll also find great viewpoints at the top of the climbs and on some beautifully constructed wood platforms.
This route flows through juniper trees on well-marked trails and offers high-speed downhills punctuated with relatively easy climbs. It also features steep berms, jumps, and wood features. Just watch out for loose sections, as the dirt has not yet settled in some spots.
Need to Know
Some trails are one-way only, don't pedal up the downhill trails.
Description
Once on the east side of Zion National Park, drive North Fork Country Road up 3.5 miles to a large parking lot on the right. Start the trail by riding the obvious singletrack out of the parking lot, proceeding to climb about 400 feet of elevation in 1.8 miles on
Techy Blue Trail to
Stair Master to
Elliptical. At the top you'll reach the large wooden platform with an awesome view.
From here, descend 1.2 miles down
Duck Duck Goose through fast and loose corners, wooden bridges, and some jumps to the road. The trail is obvious and wide, offering fun lines for anyone from expert to novice riders.
After reaching the road, head up the
Switchback Climb back to
Elliptical and the same wooden platform.
Next, descend
Ring Around the Rosie, which aptly earns its name. Similar to the downhill of
Duck Duck Goose, this trail features jumps and berms resembling those of a bike park. Follow the road downhill back to the parking lot. If you still have energy after all that, you can keep riding to check out more trails in the area.
