Watch for hikers, especially along C-Trail and Green Hollow Trail.

Overview

This shuttle links some of the best downhill trails that Cedar City has to offer. It is a must do! You'll start nestled under cottonwood and pine trees, on a raw trail full of roots and rocks. The descent takes jolting, rugged switchbacks before making its way to purpose-built mountain bike trails with jumps, drops, and rock gardens. With a total descent of 2300, feet this downhill trail is a high-speed, brake-burning SENDsation!

Need to Know

Expect intermediate to advanced level riding, with one section of double black trail (Boulderdash) that can easily be bypassed or walked. Pads are highly recommended, as the lower riding goes through sharp basalt fields that can wreak havoc on your skin if you take a spill!

Description

Getting there:
Start by setting up a shuttle and leaving a vehicle at the bottom at the Southview Trailhead. Then drive up to the Upper C-Trail parking. (Note: you can also pedal up this by going up Lichen it to Green Hollow and up Cedar Highlands Drive -- a brutal climb).

The Descent:
The trail starts right out of the parking lot and begins almost immediately with steep, abrupt switchbacks. Control your speed and be sure to watch for hikers; use a bell if you have one. This section is multi-use and close to a neighborhood. The terrain can also be very loose in the summer months.

The switchbacks eventually reach an obvious junction where you'll take a left onto Highlands Trail. Then you can enjoy the smooth singletrack and let that arm pump settle down. Highlands has a few small jumps and very nice views of Cedar City that add to the quality. Once you reach the dirt road, cross it to get onto the Green Hollow trail.

Green Hollow is a well-built singletrack with a few small climbs. It's easy to gain speed here, so again watch for hikers as there are a few blind corners. The Boulder Dash trail will quickly pop up on your left. Turn left onto Boulder Dash and get ready for the most technical descent of the ride. Note: You can avoid Boulder Dash by continuing on Green Hollow and climbing back up Lava.

Boulder Dash starts with a short, awkward traverse that drops you into a rowdy rock garden. Once through the rock garden, there are two steep chutes that are the most difficult features of the trail. After surviving these, work your way through mind-blowing basalt fields into the next section of the ride on Lava Flow trail.

Lava Flow is a great way to finish up! Flowy singletrack quickly leads you into small rock gardens, a crazy wall ride off a natural feature, and a few doubles. This is a downhill only trail so you can let your bike fly and enjoy a little airtime before reaching the Southview parking lot.
