Overview
This 9.7-mile ride takes through some of the best slickrock and singletrack trails that St. George has to offer. Better yet, this is one of the few trails in the area you can ride after the rain. This loop offers a great introduction for riders in the area who are trying to get into the slickrock riding style but want something a little easier!
Description
Start by parking at the Cottonwoods Trailhead and pedal west out of the parking lot. Follow the doubletrack until you reach a well-marked trail on your left labeled '
Prospector.'
Follow
Prospector down and left on the obvious singletrack, starting with an awkward 100-foot-long rock garden with baby heads that tend to move out from under you.
Flow into well-built singletrack and a few smoother rock sections before encountering your next technical feature. This sandstone staircase can be tricky to ride but is easily walked; you can also ride around it via obvious trail. Once past this, climb through sandpits and desert flow until reaching
Church Rocks.
Once at
Church Rocks, you can choose to pedal it in either direction. I find riding it counterclockwise to be the most fun. Start by riding down a large slab, giving you a feel for the slickrock riding that you'll get more of. Climb the obvious trail to a steep sandstone staircase that offers one heck of a challenge, before riding along a beautiful edge and back down another bare slab. Here, take an abrupt left and follow more fun slickrock back to
Prospector.
Once on
Prospector, repeat your steps back to the car, ripping down the well-built singletrack as a reward for your climbing at the start.
