Need to Know
To access: Climb up the new Chanterelle climbing trail to the viewpoint. Then take the left into the upper Chanterelle trail. Follow that to the turnoff that takes you under the power lines and cross the Wickersham Truck Trail road. Follow the sign to the access road across Wickersham and find the entrance to the top of Brown Pow on your left.
Description
Upper Brown Pow starts with a very short and punchy singletrack climb. After starting the main descent, riders will be greeted with a few mandatory drops at the beginning of the trail. Immediately followed by a couple of steep, rooty, and rutted-out straight sections. The upper portion of the trail has been around the longest and is, therefore, more eroded and ridden in. There is a fun tree stump drop into a corner with an optional ride-around. All of the features and drops on this trail are marked quite well. The upper half of the trail is mostly steep and straight, with a few short and punchy climbs to keep riders on their toes and working their legs.
If your hands and brakes are tired and sore from the Upper Brown Pow section, then you're in luck. Lower Brown Pow has a lot more bench cut and a lot more big bike-park berms, which make it super fast and fun. It is very smooth in comparison to the upper half of the trail. There are still a few punchy climbs that warrant riders getting out of their saddle and hammering to make it up them, but it's predominantly downhill. There are more technical fade-away corners with some exposure on the lower half of this trail and two drops, but those are marked exceptionally well.
