Overview

This scenic 9-mile loop takes you through the technical Zen trail into Mega Zen, a route with challenging features, exposed sections, and even some thrilling wooden features. It serves as a fantastic alternative ending to the Zen trail, offering a quieter path through rugged and rural singletrack.

Need to Know

Be prepared for some hard technical climbs!

Description

Begin your ride by climbing the Zen Trail until you reach its summit. Enjoy a brief descent into a short hike-a-bike section followed by another descent. Watch for a faint trail veering to your right. Take this into Mega Zen. As you follow this trail, be prepared for rugged terrain and a few tricky switchbacks leading down to a secluded valley. Afterward, climb back to the ridge where an exposed trail awaits, offering breathtaking views as it traverses the mesa's top. Carefully navigate the wooden features that cut off the top of the mesa. Watch your bars don't clip the wall on your left, which could kick off an unwelcome plunge into the abyss below. Once back on the mesa, Rally down narrowly stacked rocks on a ridgeline to finish off Mega Zen.

Continue your journey by pedaling along the telephone poles to reach The Art of Motorcycle Maintenance. Then, follow a rugged singletrack that winds through slickrock and technical features to the road below. After a brief road section, ascend back to the Zen trail for the final leg of your adventure through the infamous 'Hellhole,' before returning to the car.
