“A newer, fun but advanced route from the summit down to Starfish with jumps and small drops.
”
One Way Only: This is designated as a directional trail.
Description
The 'Advanced' dark-blue grade Pōhatu starts on the old Ridgeline track from the Makara Peak Summit before splitting off to the left near the stop, and winds its way down a north facing slope. Riders are treated to fun rock lips, drops, rock gardens, and cambered bends on the way, before finishing at the top of Starfish (another advanced track that continues down and returns riders to the main carpark). The Maori word for 'stoney' or 'rocky', it was created in 2020 (Lower Pōhatu) and 2022 (Upper Pōhatu). It is wider near the top, getting narrower and a bit more technical on the way, but the whole track can be rolled if desired.
