Overview
A bit of everything, but made for a trail bike, with 8 miles of rolling cross country to begin, a 1000-foot singletrack climb to a ridgeline fire road traverse, and a finale of a 7-mile singletrack descent to the car.
Need to Know
Bathroom and parking fee ($8) at Piedra Blanca Trailhead where the ride begins.
Description
Start with rolling hill terrain on
Middle Sespe trail. Link with the highway and continue on the low grade climb up Howard Creek Trail, to a ridgeline fire road. The
Nordhoff Ridge Road makes a long, rolling traverse with expansive views south and north. Finally,
Rose Lion Trail makes a ripping singletrack descent down a canyon to the car.
This is best done on a trail bike since the final descent is challenging, but be ready to pedal a lot!
History & Background
All of this is historic trail. It begins with an old wagon road from the 1800s, climbs an old homestead road, follows a ridgeline on a fire road, and descends an indigenous trail.
