Overview
This loop consists of mellow low technicality climbing up western states trail and across painted rock, transitioning to moderately technical descending down
OTB and
Deer Creek Trail back to the parking lot. This involves a fair amount of climbing, but all shaded and worth the effort.
Need to Know
Parking, restrooms, and water are all at the beginning of this loop.
Description
This route is all too easy to follow, with each junction including well marked signage, and the trail never becoming too technical to dull ones senses. All the climbing from
Western States to Painted Rock is mellow in grade and easy in technicality. When the descending begins with
OTB the trail becomes more technical with some rock gardens and exposure, but nothing extreme. Deer Creek becomes steeper, but is relatively easier in technicality, ending with a bridge crossing back to olympic valley. There are bathrooms, water fountains, and parking at the beginning of this loop.
History & Background
Many of these trails are either Washoe in origin or reflect from old logging roads in the early 1800s.
