Overview
Not many people ride
Strawberry, but those who seek it out will find a beautiful loop through deep forest, meadows and wetlands. The trail can be narrow and at times primitive, but it's worth the effort for the experience of getting out in a place that not many others see, and for the chance of spotting wildlife. This route can also make a simple bikepacking loop, or used as a basis for planning a longer loop with other trails.
Description
This is a lollipop loop that's can be ridden in either direction, but is here described clockwise. Start at the trailhead for High Lonesome Hut on CR 84 and climb the doubletrack
Strawberry trail. After passing the turn off for the hut, the trail tips downhill and takes you into the
Strawberry Creek valley. Beyond this point there is a low chance of seeing many other people.
After crossing the creek on a bridge, turn left onto
Caribou which is primitive singletrack bouncing alongside the creek. Watch for the junction with
Strawberry West on the left, and take this. You'll immediately cross a stream and start riding around the edge of a big meadow with some fantastic views.
The next intersection is with
Doe Creek Trail, where you'll stay straight/right on
Strawberry West. From there it's about a mile and half farther to the junction with
Strawberry Creek, which can be easy to miss because
Strawberry West continues straight toward Strawberry Lake. Take a right.
Strawberry Creek trail travels through pine-dominant forest over a crushed granite trail surface with plenty of rocks to navigate. About two miles of this will bring you to a junction with
Caribou. Take a right in a quarter mile later you'll rejoin the trail you biked in on.
