Overview
If you're willing to suffer a bit with some hike-a-bike and brushy conditions, the views and technical downhill are well worth it.
Description
Turn off Foothills Road onto the Strawberry Lake Road and park at the very bottom. Ride north past the gate onto the Access Road and continue to stay left. You'll see many trails of the Lower Strawberry Trail system off to your right but stay left and this road will narrow to a two-track and eventually a wide singletrack. You'll cross two creeks and eventually connect with the Peter's Ridge Road.
Climb two miles up the Peter's Ridge Road until you hit the
Peter's Ridge Trail. If you're in decent shape, you can try to climb the first 3/4 of a mile until the final 1 1/4 hike-a-bike section. Once you reach the top of Peter's Ridge, take a well earned break and enjoy breathtaking views of the Flathead Valley and looking NorthEast to Great Northern Mountain.
Descend the rest of the
Peter's Ridge Trail until you connect with the Alpine Trail #7. Take a right and head South to Strawberry Lake. Once you reach Strawberry Lake, descend to the parking lot. A lot of hikers use this trail so beware as you are bombing downhill.
Once you cross the creek and enter the parking lot, you can stay on the road all the way back to your car or you can take several fun routes on various Lower Strawberry Trails to get back. This recommended route is one of my favorite finishes to one of my favorite loops.
