Overview

The Doris Creek Trail is one of the easiest accesses to the Alpine Trail #7 but the descent down the backside of Columbia Mountain on Trail #51 is one of the most difficult and earns it's double black diamond rating with ease.

Description

If your feeling really spry, you can park at the bottom of the backside of Columbia Mountain in the parking area right before the South Fork Bridge and ride the entire loop but it's much more enjoyable to shuttle this ride leaving one car here and driving to the Doris Creek trailhead.

Take a right on Hwy 2 and drive over the South Fork Bridge and through Hungry Horse. Take a right on FS Rd 895 and drive over the Hungry Horse Dam. Continue on the West side of the Hungry Horse Reservoir Rd until you reach the Doris Creek Rd FS 895A. Start riding and climb up the Doris Creek Trail #295 until you reach the Alpine Trail #7. Take a right on the Alpine Trail #7 and head North to Columbia Mountain.

When you reach Columbia Mountain, take a right and then another immediate right to head down the backside trail #51. A left would take you down the frontside of Columbia Mountain. Oh....HANG ON at this point!!
