Description
This is a great trail to start off with if you are un-familiar with the Thompson Park area, given that it is close to Sage Brush Flat parking area and requires less navigation to do a loop than other routes. The trail, like much of Thompson Park, is for the most part smooth, fast and flowy. The trail has very moderate gradients, however there is almost no flat sections so you'll get a good workout! The most technical aspect of the trail is found at the southern section close to Sage Brush Flats where there are several tight switchbacks that can a little loose and sandy when it's dry, but take 'em slow and you'll be fine. There are three wooden bridges/boardwalks on this trail, they can be a little slippery when it is wet or snowy. John's Gulch trail can sometimes be groomed for fat biking in the winter, check with your local club.
