Description

Blacktail Trail is one of the more popular multi-use trails in town because of its close proximity and good tree cover. It is also a good distance for a casual mid-week ride after school or work. Blacktail can also be a good winter ride on a fat bike as the trail quickly gets packed down by other hikers and bikers.

The loop can be accessed via Blacktail Loop Access, Skeeboggan, or Blacktail Ridge Trails with the first option being the easiest, most direct option. The trail packs a lot of variety, consisting of moderately steep accents, flowy sections, switchbacks and few mildly techy rocky sections. There are a few blind corners where you must be more diligent of other trail users. Most riders will be able to complete a loop in about 15-30 minutes so it is common to complete more than one loop before riding down.

There is a parking lot at the bottom of Blacktail Access, but there are no facilities there. To get there
go south on Continental Drive (I-90 exit 288) for 3 miles and turn left after the Blacktail Trailhead sign on Meadow View Dr. Continue straight/left on Trail Creek Road and then turn right onto Majestic Drive and you'll arrive at the trailhead.

Much of the Blacktail Loop trail is smooth and fast like you see here, with forest cover most of the way. This is one of the wider and flatter sections of trail near the start/finish of the loop. Most of the trail is narrower and steeper than this.

The most technical section of the Blacktail Loop Trail is harder to ride up than down!
