Dogs Off-leash
Description
This is a narrow motorised doubletrack that goes from Basin Creek in the North to Burton Park TrailHead. The trail junctions with the Continental Divide Trail (CDT) about a mile from Burton Park, which makes the last mile of this trail part of the CDT. The trail is part of the Butte 50/100 Mountain Bike Race held every year in July. The most common reason that people ride this particular section of CDT is because they are training for said race, or riding a similar route.
The popularity of this trail with ATV's means that the surface is often loose, sandy and rutted. While being far from flat, the trail is fully ride-able and not so steep that you'll lose traction. The downhills can also be kinda fun, because the ATV's create these big banked corners, you just have to be careful not to wipe out in the loose sand.
Most easily accessed from the North by following Basin Creek Rd to the Basin Creek Reservoir Parking Lot where the trail-head is. There is plenty of parking as well as a recreation area that includes picnic tables and a toilet.
