Description

Maud-S is a favorite training ride for locals because of how easy it is to get a short but thorough workout. It is also a popular trail for visitors as you can get great views of town. There isn't a lot of tree cover on the loop, so it's best ridden at cooler times of the day. Fat tire biking can also be popular in the winter as the trail gets packed down by a lot of foot traffic.

If you bike from the Maud-S Parking Lot up to the top of the loop you'll have climbed 1000' in about 2 miles. That combined with some rocky sections make this a tough but doable climb. The trail is multi-use and multi-directional, and both directions ride a little differently. Everyone has their favorite direction, the "left side" has some steeper sections that feel more pumpy on the ascent and overall has more switchbacks. The "right side" is a little more rocky but has some straighter sections to get up more speed on the descent. Both sides are a riot going downhill, but please control your descent as this trail is popular with hikers.

The Maud-S loop Trail starts at the Old Railway. There are two access trails that lead up to this from the Maud-S Parking Lot, which is very close to the Continental Drive Exit of I-90. Exit to the east and head left on Saddle Rock Road and the Parking Lot is about a quarter mile on the right.
