Need to Know

The top of this trail is tricky to find, and it is not signposted, so having GPS is highly recommended. Follow a doubletrack access trail that heads up the grassy hill from Limekiln Rd, and take the fork to the left. This trail will end at a primitive campsite area at the tree boundary and the trail begins at the far corner of this.

The bottom of the trail ends at Toll Canyon Trail, immediately after a small stream crossing. It is signposted, but it is still easy to miss.

Description

Fish Creek is a fun, downhill primary trail that starts near Limekiln Hill, follows Fish Creek, and joins up with Toll Canyon Trail. The trail is one of the more technical trails close to Butte because of its steep and rocky sections. Much of this trail follows a gully that can remain wet much later in the year than the surrounding trails, and there are a couple of small streams crossing that are generally always running.

After descending the trail you have the option to climb up Toll Canyon Trail back to the Continental Divide Trail (CDT), or descend it down to Hwy 2. The first option is a popular one, as you can do a lollipop loop starting at Homestake Pass and riding up the CDT.

Photo shows the un-signposted access to Fish Creek Trail. Take the Doubletrack left off Limekiln Rd. On that first (right hand) bend, take a hard left on a faint doubletrack up towards the trees.
