Overview
Get a taste of the 'other' Wasatch trails in this loop that goes between Millcreek Canyon, Big Cottonwood Canyon, and the Wasatch crest.
Description
Start at the top of Millcreek Canyon. Please note that mountain bikes are only allowed in upper Millcreek Canyon on even numbered days.
Hop on the
Big Water Trail (Upper) and take this to the first major intersection with
Dog Lake. Take a left and head to
Dog Lake. There is another trail further along that goes to
Dog Lake, but this first turn is the most friendly for uphill riding. Ride to
Dog Lake. From the parking lot, it is all climbing up until this point!
Once at
Dog Lake, ride past the lake and take your first left. You are now in Big Cottonwood Canyon. Enjoy the views! This is one of the prettiest bike trails in the Wasatch.
Very soon you'll be on the Desolation Lake trail, which climbs up to Desolation Lake and the
Wasatch Crest Trail . This climb is not for the faint of heart! There are a few hike-a-bike sections, and all but the strongest climbers will need a quick break. It is steep!
Ride up to the
Wasatch Crest Trail and take a left (the primary direction of travel on the Crest). Very quickly, you'll come to the unmarked trail called
Mill Creek Meadows . Take this trail.
Mill Creek Meadows is an old school singletrack trail that is unrivaled for views and scenery. The riding is not to shabby either!!
Millcreek Meadows heads straight down to the
Big Water Trail (Upper). Once down, take a right (uphill), and head to the Old Red Pine Road trail. Old Red Pine completes the loop back down to the parking lot. This is a fantastic after work loop that stays cool even on the hottest of days.
