Overview
This route takes riders through dense pine forests, lush meadows, and tall aspen groves. Enjoy views of Vallecito Reservoir and the valley below, as well as the Weminuche Wilderness.
Description
Start this loop by driving up part way up the Middle
Middle Mountain Road and parking at the
Dark Canyon trail sign. You'll start your climb on the road. Although this is a road grind, it is very picturesque with views of the mountains and also the reservoir below. After climbing for about 7 miles, you'll reach the intersection for the
Runlett Park Trail. This trail is mostly downhill and considered an ATV/motorcycle trail or road. While it can be considered a road or doubletrack, it is still fun to rip down! Once you ride this for about 3 miles, you'll come to the intersection where
Dark Canyon trail starts. You have made it!
Dark Canyon is a great downhill with loose rock sections, mellow flow, and beautiful views of the canyon and mountains. Enjoy an awesome downhill while soaking in the remoteness of this trail. It really makes you feel like you are out there! After following this trail for about 2 miles, you'll pop back out onto
Middle Mountain Road where you parked your car.
This trail is great if you want to pedal up the road, or feel free to shuttle it as well!
