Overview
If you're willing to suffer the climb and hike-a-bike up Peter's Ridge, the challenging ride north on the Alpine 7 trail and down Hemler Creek will leave you begging for more.
Description
Turn left off of Foothills Road onto the Peter's Ridge Rd FS 5388 and park anywhere you choose all the way up to Trail Creek Rd where you'll come out to complete the loop. I parked at the bottom but you can park right at the end of Trail Creek Rd also.
Ride up the Peter's Ridge Rd until you hit the
Peter's Ridge Trail and have fun climbing and pushing to the top. After you descend the backside of the
Peter's Ridge Trail and hit the
Alpine Trail #7 (North) junction, head north.
Enjoy 5 miles of the Alpine 7 trail as you climb and descend the various ridge saddles between Peter's Ridge and Hemler. Once you reach the
Hemler Creek Trail #20 junction, buckle up for a seriously challenging double black diamond downhill.
As you finish the serious tech and it opens up a bit, there will be a "shortcut" off to the left that literally goes STRAIGHT downhill and cuts off two of the major switchbacks. I've wrecked too many times wearing out break pads, skidding down this so for this route, I recommend staying on the main trail and enjoying some fast, fun open downhill after the white knuckling you've just been through.
Eventually you'll spill onto the Trail Creek Rd and ride it back to wherever you parked your car on the Peter's Ridge Rd
