Overview

Fern's trail connects sections of the Blue Loop, Mud Creek Loop, the Red Trail and a few others to form an easy/intermediate 10 mile loop at McAllister Park. The route is mostly singletrack and mostly hard packed, but with some sections of roots and rocks and some optional technical sections.

Description

To start this loop, park near the skills course and pump track parking lot.

Look for the entrance to the Blue loop off of Buckhorn Lane near the entrance to the parking lot. Ride the Blue Loop until you get to the old Armadillo Trail and navigate your way through these tight, twisty and rocky trails. Enter the Mud Creek Loop and follow it out just before it gets to Thousand Oaks Dr and turn back on the other side of the creek. This heads back to the blue loop.

At this intersection there is a restroom nearby if needed. Continue NW on the Blue Loop to the entrance of Lila Cockrell Way. Ride this trail and it will merge back in with the Blue Loop near Jones Maltsberger Rd. Continue on the Blue Loop until you reach the Red Trail. Take the Red Trail to the Wandering Chisos Trail. There are a couple extra loops here if you want some extra distance(Skeeter Loop and Lost Loop). Continue on to Mosquito Lake Trail and turn right on the Red Trail. Take the Red Trail to the Twisty Trail on the left.

Ride this through to the Red Trail Connector up the dam and go right on the Blue Loop Shortcut Trail. Ride to the Blue Loop Cutoff and stay left, this will loop you back to the top of the dam. Go down the hill and hang a right on Sidekick. Here there are more optional loops for extra distance. Continue on Sidekick and hang a right on Serpent Trail, stay to the left on Soaring Trail then a right on MP8, then right on MP10, these go by quick so keep an eye out. MP10 will dump you out at the skills course and the pump track back at the parking lot.

History & Background

This is a popular loop used for social rides for all levels of riders.
