This route is a two car shuttle that takes riders on Elbert Creek up to Big Lick descent.

This ride is logistically a tad difficult with a good bit of driving needed and dirt road usage but if not in a hurry for the day, it sure is a nice area to enjoy the mountains around there! Start by dropping off a vehicle at Upper Hermosa Creek parking area and then the other at the Needles gas station parking area for the bottom of Elbert Creek.

Climb up Elbert Creek which has a somewhat steeper bottom with areas of rock tech and eventually mellows out up in the meadow above. You'll cross Elbert Creek Road - FS581 and continue up towards the top. Once at the top, the Big Lick trail begins at the cattle grate.

Enjoy the descent of Big Lick, a less ridden backcountry trail that is quite fun and full of good rock and root sections here and there. You'll end at Hermosa Creek Trail and have to pedal a bit back out north to get to your other vehicle.
