Need to Know

The trailhead is accessed via Cable Road, near a small quarry on the North side of MT-1 West of Anaconda.

Description

Tin Can Gulch passes through the Blue Eyed Nellie Wildlife Management Area. It is an old jeep trail that nature has been slowly reclaiming. This trail is more about exploring a beautiful mountainside gully than it is about the actual riding, as the trail itself is not particularly inspiring. You'll get a good workout however, as the trail steepness becomes quite challenging in the upper half.

The tail starts with a small trailhead parking area and a gate at the bottom. The first mile of trail is moderate and relatively pleasant. After that you have some steep sections where you may have to push your bike a little. After about 1.5 miles up, the trail surface starts being replaced by a combination of bumpy grass and scattered rocks and this is where it gets really tough. By this stage you'll have a nice view of the gully going all the way up to the top of Stucky ridge. The trail doesn't have a clear end-point, but eventually you'll either reach your physical limit, or just decide that riding your bike up the grass and rocks just isn't fun. You can stash your bike on the side of the trail and continue up on foot as high as you want, the gully gets steeper and rockier and the views get better and better.
