Flat and flowy.
Overview
The Spur Line trails are easily the best beginner trails in Durango. These smooth, flowy loops are relatively flat (for Durango) and almost entirely bereft of technical obstacles.
In addition, the stacked-loop design makes it easy for new riders to ride as long or as short as they want. The shortest option is simply riding the
Switcher Loop , about 1.8 miles long. The route shown here is about 5.7 miles long. You could also do a distance in between these two, or even extend this recommended loop to add more mileage.
In short, if you're trying to get a new rider into the sport, this is the place to take them!
Description
The best way to ride the Spur Line Trails is to keep turning right and creating a counter-clockwise loop. However, on the
North Spur Line Lollipop Loop you'll need to skip one of the right turns to eventually turn around and start heading back toward the trailhead.
As noted above, there are several options for shortening this route. You could shorten the route by just riding the
Switcher Loop, or beginning to return to the trailhead after the
Rail Spike Loop, thereby skipping the
North Spur Line Lollipop Loop. The choice is up to you!
Note, there is a small skills park at the beginning of the trail, which is generally overgrown and poorly-signed. This may make the start of the trail seem confusing, but if you just turn right immediately as you enter the trails, you should find yourself on the main singletrack loop.
