Overview

Bang for the buck, this out and back earns you possibly the best views of any mountain bike ride in the valley as well as a bomber 6 mile downhill to top things off.

Description

Take the East Side South Fork Road until you cross Emery Creek, then take a jack-knife left onto FS Rd 1035.

Follow FS Rd 1035 until you reach a substantial opening / parking area with a road taking off to your right. This road begins with 4 brand new, very substantial Kelly humps and is the start of the West Ousel Peak Trail #388.

There are a few junctions but they are pretty easy to follow so it's a pretty straightforward climb all the way to the top.

You'll reach a saddle that provides gorgeous views after 5 miles of climbing where you could take pics and decide to turn around....OR...you can continue on the now very remote, primitive trail all the way to the Great Bear Wilderness sign and the ultimate views of Glacier National Park.

Enjoy the breathtaking sights and maybe a lunch and then bomb all the way back down the incredible downhill to your car.
