Need to Know
There is trailhead parking on the western side at the top of Rawhide Rd, however the road can be heavily rutted and there is a basic parking area on Upper Valley Rd at the bottom of Rawhide Rd. that may be more suitable for most vehicles. Access to the eastern side is via the Ninety Cent Gulch dirt road. There are several places to park along this road, including at the trailhead.
Description
Rawhide is a multi-use motorized trail that connects the Boulder Valley in the West with the Elkhorn Road (Queens Gulch) in the east by going up and over the ridge that divides them. The trail for the most part is heavily forested, so that will keep you sheltered from the weather, however it also obscures much of the views that you would otherwise have. On the boulder side, the trail is much longer and steeper than the Elkhorn side and travels up Rawhide Gulch. The trail is more dirt than rocks which makes it relatively non-technical and rideable as an ascent if you are a strong climber. On the Elkhorn side the trail is much more mellow and travels up Ninety Cent Gulch. It passes through some small clearings and you may encounter some cattle on this side.
