Overview
There are so many different ways and routes to ride the Alpine Trail #7 but this one might include the most total downhill and the fact that the ride is entirely 100% singletrack makes it that much better.
Description
Take the Hungry Horse Dam Road, cross the dam and head up the West side of the Hungry Horse Reservoir. Take a right on the Doris Creek Trail Road. The end of the road is the drop off point or place to park your shuttle vehicle.
Begin riding up the
Doris Creek Trail #295 and climb the 3 miles until you reach the
Alpine Trail #7 (North). This climb isn't too brutal but it is very rocky due to a lot of motorcycle activity as this is one of the main access points for motos. Expect to grind and push a few sections but for the most part, this is one of the best and easiest access trails to the Alpine 7.
Once you reach Alpine 7, turn South and enjoy 12, uninterrupted miles of sweet, high-alpine, raw and rugged singletrack as the trail winds up and down and climbs and descends the Swan Mountain Range all the way to Strawberry Lake. Expect to climb about 3,000 vertical feet but earn 4,600 feet of descent in the process. Combined with the final 2,000 foot descent after Strawberry Lake, that is a lot of fun going down! Although you're not on the very top of the ridge like you are on most of the Southern portion of the Alpine 7, the views are still awesome.
Once you reach Strawberry lake, descend the 2,000 feet to the bottom and choose how you want to end the day either coming down the Strawberry Lake Road to your car or riding some of the
Lower Strawberry Lake Trail to create a bit more singletrack.
