Description
McClellan Creek Trail is one of 3 trails that leave from the south end of McClellan Creek Road, but this is the one that follows McClellan Creek proper. It is a popular multi-use trail that is often used by horses. It's one of the easier trails in the area for mountain biking and is often used as an access point to Willard Creek Trail or for an ascent of
Casey Peak. For the most part the trail is smooth and non-technical with a pleasant gradient that meanders along the side of the gully. Most of it is suitable for novice riders, however there are a few short sections that are steep and/or have moderate rock obstacles that may pose as small challenges.
The bottom of the trail starts a short way up Casey Meadows Trail and follows a firebreak for most of the way up to the intersection with Willard Creek Trail, meaning there is no tree cover but good views of the surrounding mountains. For the last 0.5 miles you'll have some intermittent tree cover, and the lower half of this trail finishes at the junction with Montgomery Park Trail. From here, the continued ascent up McClellan Creek Trail (Upper) is much steeper, more difficult and involves a significant amount of hike-a-bike.
