Overview
New Fork Canyon is a beautiful and less popular trailhead than the neighboring Elkhart Trailhead. Expect fun, flowy cross country with some spectacular views. This is a good trail for those looking for a quick outing or a relaxing ride to access the wilderness boundary.
Description
Start from the
New Fork Canyon trailhead and ride to the wilderness boundary. The trail rolls through the woods for roughly a mile, rising to a high point before dropping down to the lake. On its journey down to the lake, the trail is fast and flowy singletrack, but a bit exposed in several places to keep you honest. Once down at the lake, the trail climbs slightly, then heads back down to a junction with Doubletop Mountain Trail. Stay straight and continue on rolling trail another 1.5 to the wilderness boundary.
Due to poor trail etiquette by some users, the trail can get torn up when muddy. It's best to ride in summer/fall when conditions are drier. There is one section about a quarter mile in that needs drainage work and is perpetually wet, but easy to either walk around or ride through.
