Overview
One of the city's most popular routes, it is literally within the city itself and offers incredible ocean views. It features some trails with cliffs and drop-offs that showcase the bay and the city in all their splendor. There are many alternate paths, so you'll need to pay close attention to the map at all times. The trails are not complicated and are very enjoyable for all skill levels. They include some fast sections, bermed turns, rocks, and a variety of terrains, ranging from loose dirt, small rocks, and dust to fully rocky sections.
Need to Know
The trail does not have its own parking, restrooms, or nearby stores, so you'll need to bring everything necessary to meet your needs. Regarding parking, you can park your vehicle anywhere in the neighborhood (don't worry, it's one of the safest in the city). Many people also park near the viewpoint, but I don't recommend it, as it's located on a dirt road in poor condition, and you might get scolded by the security guards from the private neighborhood across the street.
Description
You'll start your route at the city viewpoint, which is often popular among dog walkers and other cyclists. Since the trails are not marked or have a defined direction, you'll need to be very mindful of other walkers, cyclists, and pets. The first descent doesn't offer anything particularly interesting, and you'll climb back up a doubletrack path, so there won't be much to see yet. However, nearing the end of the path, you'll reach the first viewpoint along the route.
From there, you can descend several meters down a very dangerous cliff. Be extremely cautious as it is filled with loose rocks and gravel; any mistake could be fatal, but the view is a beautiful reward. You'll need to return to the top to take a singletrack to your left. This trail is technical but mostly flat, with some rocky sections that are quite tricky to navigate. It transitions into a loose dirt route located between two doubletrack paths. This trail is very fast and full of berms.
You'll then climb to the graffiti-covered water cistern, where you'll see multiple trails. Follow the route to experience as many as you'd like. I recommend sticking to this route, as the crown jewel is undoubtedly the CAMINO ALTERNO BAJADA trail. This trail has it all: technical sections, rocks, lots of speed, incredible views, and a fast descent.
