Overview
Ash to kings trail was designed and built as a premier singletrack to drive recreation tourism to Carson City, and certainly stands up to its intent. The fire road uphill from the parking lot is at a regular easy grade with a wide surface. The downhill is entirely singletrack full of flowy turns at non steep grades, making it a great loop for any rider. Views are expansive of the great basin.
Description
The route begins with a meandering dirt road between homes, popping out and beginning the long climb up the fire road to the summit of Kings Canyon. At the summit, the intersection with the Ash canyon trail offers a great downhill full of flowing turns with a soft riding surface largely made up of decomposed granite. Views from the summit and during the descent offer a foreground of pine trees and rocky creeks, leading outward into the plains of the great basin.
The descent is long - taking over 5 miles to complete without drastic changes in character the entire time. This descent leads directly back to the parking lot.
