A nice beginner loop, and fun for any level rider
Overview
True Grit was designed and built to be a classic for the beginner mtb rider, and it shows! The climb from the adventure center is easy and smooth surfaced. The trail down is fast and flowy, with moderate grades and built-in berms that make it great fun for everyone.
Description
Begin at the Alder Creek Adventure Center in Tahoe Donner. From there, mix of singletrack and fire roads takes you up toward Hawk's Peak. The surface is soft and the grades are fairly easy. A bit shy of the top of the peak (where the trail gets steeper) the turn for
True Grit trail will appear. This makes the escape back down to the parking lot via flowing singletrack full of berms, rollers, and straight low-angle sections of trail. It's a good time for any skill level, with plenty of shade under pine trees and no technical features. Keep in mind that this is a 2-way trail, and though sight lines are generally good, caution for uphill riders will be necessary.
