Overview
The newly built
OEC Connector links Old Ellicott City with the Hollofield area of Patapsco. This lollipop has a variety of trail, from the flow trail of the
OEC Connector and the
Old Ranger Extension to the more rocky and technical
Campground Loop and
New Ranger Trail. Nice views along with way.
For those camping in Hollofield, you can easily modify the route to start from the campground and ride from Sylvan Lane to the several restaurants, bars, and shops in Old Ellicott City.
Need to Know
DO NOT DRIVE OR TRY TO PARK ON SYLVAN LANE! It is a narrow road with no turnarounds.
Description
Park in the large lot by the old Courthouse. DO NOT DRIVE OR TRY TO PARK ON SYLVAN LANE! Ride Church Road to Sylvan Lane to the trailhead.
OEC Connector starts with a steep climb, eventually levels out. Great, mostly machine-built, flow trail, that is managable on a rigid monstercross bike or even a gravel bike. However, once
OEC Connector intersects with the
Campground Loop, the trail will be noticeably more technical and rocky.
The lollipop can be run in either direction, but clockwise is arguably easier. There are bathrooms in the main Park area. Some of the most technical rock gardens in Patapsco can be found in Hollofield, including one challenging spot on the
New Ranger Trail. This lollipop is a lot of fun - don't be put off by the technical bits, they can be walked. Flow, tech, downhill, challenging climbs, good views—this ride has it!
