Overview

Starting at Fatmans Loop Trailhead, this ride traverses around the base of Mount Elden on some less-traveled trails. The route then climbs up Elden's inner canyon and over the pass with the Dry Lake Hills to descend the Little Bear trail and return around Little Elden back to the start. Although near the center of Flagstaff, this loop skirts around the busy areas, and you'll likely find quiet trails.

Description

Starting at the popular Fat Man's loop trail, you'll quickly leave the crowds as you head onto the Forces of Nature trail. Forces of Nature can be difficult to follow, and it has many techy rock sections that will challenge even an expert rider. Things get easier once you reach the Oldham Trail and climb up into the inner canyon of Mount Elden.

After a long climb up the well-graded Down Under trail, you'll top out on the pass and descend down Little Bear trail. The descent on Little Bear has spectacular views and several steep sections with some exposure that will keep you on your toes.

From the bottom of Little Bear you'll wrap around the northeast base of Mount Elden on mostly flowy singletrack of Little Elden to Christmas Tree and return to the Fat Man's parking lot.

This is the bench with a view spot - you have to search for the bench - great view off Little Bear Trail. Great spot to stop for a picnic.
