Need to Know

Be ready for rock scrambling in a few sections.

Description

I rode clockwise for a short afternoon ride. After traversing the sandy washes, the route climbs over a number of rocky sections (bowling ball size) interspersed with easy riding dirt. Getting toward the south end of Alamo Canyon, the difficulty level goes up. There's a really nice view of the canyon at it's southern tip, signaling the start of about 3/4 mile of short technical riding mixed with some rock scrambling portions (see photo). For that part, I wish I wasn't in my stiff soled cycling shoes.

Heading back to the northwest to complete the loop, the trail mostly eases up downhill, but still challenges you with a few more soft, deep sand dry stream crossings and opportunities to experience jumping cholla if you want.
Although open to MTB, I saw almost no mountain bike tracks on this route, hiking & horseback tracks only.
