Overview

This classic is completed in so many different ways. It can be completed as a loop, either taking the pedway into town and along town streets back to Cache Creek trailhead, or jumping on Lindas Trail #4033 to Sink or Swim #4031 to Hagen Highway Trail #4035 back to Cache Creek trailhead to maximize singletrack. Most commonly, this route is completed with a shuttle, either leaving a car at Smith's Grocery store on the south side of town or leaving a vehicle at the Game Creek trailhead as described here.

In addition to the route you choice, this can be turned into a fun and casual bike-packing trip. Although this route is most commonly completed in a half a day or less.

The riding itself is mostly flow, and the amount of singletrack on the uphill is up to you. Hagen, Putt-Putt, and Cache Creek Sidewalk trails parallel Cache Creek Road.

Description

Following the mapped route, park a car at Game Creek trailhead and drive to Cache Creek trailhead on the east side of Jackson. Bike up Cache Creek road for about 4 miles. The wide road gently climbs next to Cache Creek, eventually becoming a singletrack about 2 miles in. If you would like to maximize singletrack, jump on Hagen Trail #4037, Putt Putt Trail, or Cache Creek Sidewalk and bike any of those trails to their terminus up canyon. Four miles into Cache Creek, a junction for Game Creek Trail #4025 is seen on your left crossing Cache Creek. This trail completes one steep switchback up the canyon's mountain side to a saddle which may require you to hike your bike.

At the top of the saddle, the downhill begins. Ride down Game Creek Trail #4025. The singletrack begins with a few rounded switchbacks then flows steeply through aspens towards Game Creek. Stay left at the junction for West Game Creek Trail #4026, continuing downhill on Game Creek Trail #4025 and staying left of the beaver ponds. The trail will turn into doubletrack before ending at the Game Creek trailhead.

If you didn't shuttle a car to the trail, either take the pedway back to Cache Creek trailhead or wherever you left your car, or take the pedway to Lindas Trail #4033 and ride Sink or Swim #4031 and Hagen Highway Trail #4035 back to Cache Creek to maximize singletrack.
