Overview
One of the best loops in Bent Creek puts together some fun trails and offers some great downhill with berms, drops, roots and flowy rollers.
Description
Start out at the Hardtimes parking area or either parking area on
Ledford Branch. Follow the gravel road up
Ledford Branch Road and take a hard left at the second parking area which used to be '
Sidehill' but is now
Ledford Branch /
Boyd Branch Road. After following a mellow gravel climb, you'll see the unmarked 'Red Dirt' trail coming in on the right. Continue on
Ledford. You see
Boyd Branch split to the left... take the next right on an unmarked
Little Hickory Top. You'll follow this beautiful wooded trail all the way up to Five Points.
Get ready for a fun, fast descent as you pick your way down the rocky beginnings of
Ingles Field Gap. There are several nice rock obstacles, spring crossings, jumps and roots to play with on the way down. Once you round a couple of nice switchbacks at the end of the trail you'll take a right back on
Ledford. Take the first trail on the left (
Wolf Branch), which is another fun and flowy descent through the forest.
Wolf Branch will turn in to Deer Lodge Road and meander through the lower glades through some nice root sections. Stay right and get on the
Hard Times Connector that will lead you across Bent Creek Gap road to another fun, but short, downhill with some nice water bars. At the end of Hard Times, take a right, then another quick right onto the Power Line trail which will lead you back up and across the road. Then the final winding path -- Interpretive -- back to the lot veers off to the left.
