Description
The
Inner Loop, Outer Loop, and the
Out & Back are collectively the "Foote Road Trails." This county land is administered by the Erie County Dept. of Parks, Recreation, and Forestry. It's technically not part of Sprague Brook Park, but rather part of its forestry holdings.
All the Foote Road trails are accessed from a connector from the XC Ski Loop, crossing Foote Road. Be sure to look both ways for traffic.
The outer loop starts at the 4-way intersection reached by the connector. At this intersection, take a hard right down to a small bridge over a creek. The trail then follows a small raised ridge, crossing at one point a section of snowmobile trail. The Outer Loop continues straight until it curves left over some well built stone causeways that bring across the otherwise wet seepage coming from some wetlands to your left. The trail continues to bear left until it climbs up to a ridge with a nice view of a creek to your right. It crosses a tributary to this creek on a small bridge before climbing back up onto this small ridge. After crossing the snowmobile trail again, it follows the short ridge a little while longer until it merges with the inner loop.
From there, you can either continue on the inner loop, or soon enough, see the start of the out and back.
