Overview
One of the closest trails to Charlotte, yet it's out in the country. The Tarheel
Trail have done an excellent job adding and maintaining berms, skinnys, rock gardens, a dinosaur back, a few ladder bridges and drops as well. Fun for all levels as there are options for all of the obstacles.
Description
Ride the main loop for a quick afterwork session or tack on the
Roller Coaster Loop and
Lake Loop for the full ~9 miles. This is a tight, twisty, sometimes flowy trail that is full of man-made obstacles.
The trail starts out with a nice section of very well done berms and then crosses a bridge to a skinny and 2 jumps. After a short gravel reprieve, you can choose to follow the fast and fun
Roller Coaster Loop off to the left.
Back on the main trail there are several more berms and a nice gully ladder jump among other things to keep a huckster somewhat occupied. The optional
Lake Loop is probably the most mundane section of trail, but still worth doing for the miles, a few nice jumps and a fairly challenging rock garden/creek crossing.
Watch out for suicidal squirrels here, there have actually been a couple found dead on the trail from playing chicken with knobby tires.
