Description

This trail passes near many DC Civil War forts. Metro accessible mountain biking! Since it's in NE & SE DC, it's pretty much deserted.

The southern end of the trail can be accessed either just NE across from the Anacostia Community Museum at the corner of the field or from the picnic area right off of Bruce Pl SE.

The northern end of the trail is the nice big loop around Fort Mahan, and is impossible to miss. There is also a spur upto the clearing on top of Fort Mahan. The trail continues south left off of 41st NE & Flint Pl NE.

All the road crossings are pretty clearly labeled with a map. There is an intersection in Fort Dupont that is unmarked. It is on the maps you see at intersections. The trail that goes most uphill is a spur to Fort Dupont.

Second time one this trail. I actually like it a lot. Has a few good technical climbs and some pretty fast decents. Start from the south and go ...

Saw a fox, two doe, and a 6-pt buck. Nice ride. Nothing too technical, but you do get a good workout. 5.8mi
