Many great rock and tie switchbacks on Silver Moccasin descending past Horse Flats and down to where it crosses Chilao Rd / FSR 3N14.

The first mile of Silver Moccasin (starting at Three Points) is smooth and flowy with a number of short punchy climbs. Unlike Mt. Hillyer, there are very few rocks along the upper section, until you start the switchbacks down to Chilao Camp and beyond.

Photos + video clips along Mt Hillyer & Silver Moccasin Loop. One of the most beautiful and rewarding routes I've ridden in SoCal.

Among the Horse Flats Boulders. Trail is clear and gorgeous. Lots of rock steps along this section but all are rideable for an intermediate / advanced rider.

Ridgeline of Mt. Hillyer, just starting descent into the Horse Flats Rock Gardens.

Morning light creeping into the ravine of lower Chumash Trail. One of the best combinations of singletrack + technical climbs + rocky descents in the region. Far less gnarly and consequential than the full DH descents (Grudge, Undertow, and Hummingbird)

Looking back down Chumash from the junction with Rocky Peak Trail (crossing in the foreground). A perfect cross-country / down-country descent with technical rocky outcroppings and smooth but often narrow singletrack all the way to the bottom.

Looking up the last rock wall before the junction at Rocky Peak Trail (which you can see in the upper left). One of the hardest sections to clean, and a good challenge coming back down, too.

Looking up into the last couple hundred yards before the junction with Rocky Peak Trail. This last stretch offers half a dozen small rocky sections, a couple are deceptively tricky. Good challenge, great fun!

Looking up the last sustained rock climb section before the top of Chumash. It's rideable but very challenging. At the bottom, try hugging the right edge up over the rock mound, which gives you a split second of momentum before charging the main grade.

The first big rock climb section on the way up Chumash Trail. (There's a few short rubble piles before this, but this is where the real fun of this trail begins). This section is rough and off-camber, but the rock is grippy and solid, so it's rideable : )

Morning light, looking down on the first mile of the Chumash Trail coming up from Simi Valley.

Dawn light on the ridge above Chumash. Trail is steep but relatively smooth in the first mile.

Lower third of McGill Trail has stunning vistas to the North. The singletrack is skinny and the most exciting of the three sections ~ a few tight switchbacks, some nicely bermed corners, and traverses across steep hillsides.

Middle third of the McGill singletrack. Dozens of small, smooth kickers like this one, most with plenty of clean landing zones, makes McGill a great place to get a little air.

Middle third of McGill Trail singletrack has one enormous feature, a well-built wood ramp + tabletop (uphill) and a very loose rollover backside.

Upper third of McGill trail features several crude log crossings which are generally rollable but due to the very loose stacking of materials on the blind downhill side should be approached with caution.
