At mile 9 is the Historic Huguenot District founded on land once occupied by the Lenape tribe for 5,000 years or more. This just one of several historic building dating back to the founding of New Paltz in 1678. This and other buildings are all within 100 yards of the trail.

At mile 5.5 is Dressell Farm. The trail passes through the apple orchard with spectacular views year round. Locals watch Independence Day fireworks which take place at the Ulster County Fair Grounds across the river. Be sure to have a bike light for the night ride home.

At mile 10.5 is the trail bridge at Springtown Road. It offers peaceful views of the often swiftly-moving Wallkill River as it flows north. You can see the shadow of the bridge on the water below in this photo.

At mile 8 the trail is adjacent to Soujourner Truth Park with its kayak launch. Every May since 1955 New Paltz a festive "regatta" with home-made boats in a race beside the trail.

Near mile 18 there is a hidden support bridge. Here's a stone stairwell and corridor that runs beneath the trail.

Looking northward on the Wallkill Valley Rail Trail and near a small parking area at Coffey Road and near Mile Marker 11 in New Paltz. The Wallkill rail trail bridge at Springtown is less than half a mile south.
